Newquay’s New Weekly Meet Ups Offer a Calm and Welcoming Space for Quiet People
Quiet Connections is delighted to announce the launch of its new Weekly Meet Ups in Newquay, providing a gentle and welcoming space for quieter individuals to connect in a way that feels authentic and pressure-free.
Starting Tuesday, 25th March, the Meet Ups will take place every week from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at The Hub, Nansledan. This warm and understanding space is designed for introverted, sensitive, or shy individuals to get together, engage in meaningful moments, and find a sense of belonging—all in a relaxed and gently inclusive environment.
“We know that traditional social gatherings can sometimes feel overwhelming as a quieter person, and you can feel ‘on the outside’ at times,” says Hayley Stanton, Director of Quiet Connections. “Our Meet Ups are designed to offer a warm and supportive space where people can engage in ways that feel comfortable—whether that’s chatting with others, enjoying a creative activity, or simply sitting with a book in quiet companionship.”
The Meet Ups are hosted by Quiet Connectors, Julie Jones and Louise Ostrovsky, who have personal experience of navigating social anxiety and quietness in a world that often prioritises extroversion. Attendees can expect a relaxed atmosphere with no pressure to talk or participate in activities. Conversation starters will be available for those who wish to engage, and tea, coffee, and biscuits will always be on hand to enhance the sense of comfort and community.
“As a quiet person, I know how hard it can be to feel seen and understood,” says Julie Jones, one of the Meet Up leaders. “Through Quiet Connections, I’ve found acceptance and confidence in my quiet strengths, and now I hope to support others to do the same.”
The Meet Ups are open to anyone who identifies with being quiet, introverted, shy, or a highly sensitive person. There’s no need to register in advance—newcomers are welcome to drop in, though signing up beforehand allows for a friendly introduction and answers to any questions before attending.
This initiative is part of Quiet Connections’ ongoing work to create kind and inclusive spaces for quieter individuals across Cornwall, with Weekly Meet Ups already running in Truro, Liskeard, Helston, Falmouth, Penzance, Redruth, Camborne, and now Newquay—plus more locations planned as volunteer interest grows. The expansion of these spaces has been made possible in part thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, supporting Quiet Connections in its mission to help quiet individuals flourish on their own terms.
