Bringing Your Idea to Life When You Feel Anxious & Self-Doubting

Do you have a great idea – perhaps a hobby that could become an income, or a community project to help others – but you worry about what people will think? Maybe you’d love to start a business or go self-employed, but that quiet voice insists it’s just not possible, or that you’ll get it wrong.

You’re not alone. We’ve felt this way too (and still do at times!)

It’s not easy to ignore the voice in our heads that tells us we’re “not good enough” or “capable enough” and “can’t do it”. Or that our ideas “aren’t good enough” and “won’t get taken seriously” and we’ll be “criticised and laughed at”. If we let it, this can stop us from even beginning to explore our ideas and finding out what really is possible. And who knows… your idea could change someone’s life or give you the income and lifestyle that you want (or both!)

We know first-hand that the first step is the hardest. That’s why we’re sharing with you what we wish we knew when we were in your position back in 2015; and what we have learned from working with other people like you who are bringing their ideas to life right now.

Sally Jones, Learning Manager from The School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) joins us to share her experiences as both someone starting up a business and also supporting people who are exploring ideas and running businesses in her role at SSE.

What you’re going to get from this session:

  • You’ll discover that feeling anxious and self-doubting doesn’t have to hold you back
  • You’ll take the pressure off of yourself and allow yourself to simply explore an idea and see where it goes
  • You’ll find out that people just like you can be successful – and that means you can too!
  • You’ll learn where to get support to help you with (a) exploring your idea and all the possibilities available to you, and (b) managing anxious feelings and growing your confidence

This session offers a gentle but powerful push past the fear of criticism and failure, helping you to see that your unique idea deserves a chance.

Resource: What Makes You the Person Your People Need?

It can be easy to fall into the ‘I’m not XX enough to start this’ mindset. This resource is designed to help you look past that and see all the valuable qualities, strengths, and gifts that you already bring to the role.
