Seeking Passionate Directors to Shape the Future of Quiet Connections (Volunteer Position)

Quiet Connections CIC is looking for Volunteer Directors to join our Board and help us grow our impact.

We’re a Cornwall-based community fostering connection and belonging, celebrating quietness, and creating warm, inclusive spaces for quieter individuals—those who are introverted, highly sensitive, shy, or experiencing social anxiety—and moving into more focused narrative change initiatives, to gently highlight, challenge and improve perceptions of quietness in society though community-led ‘quiet activism’ projects.

As a volunteer director, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of Quiet Connections, ensuring our work continues to promote inclusivity, compassion, and empowerment. We believe that quiet people deserve spaces where they can flourish. Your expertise will help us sustain and grow these spaces, making a difference for those who often feel overlooked, and help us create a wider impact by challenging societal perceptions through narrative change initiatives.

Our Board will meet quarterly, with opportunities to contribute in-between meetings as your time allows. As a director, you’ll also ensure Quiet Connections operates responsibly and sustainably, aligning with our legal obligations as a Community Interest Company (CIC).

Key Responsibilities

  • Governance & Oversight: As a non-executive director, your main responsibility is to ensure the organisation’s effective governance, supporting our vision and ensuring we operate ethically, sustainably, and legally. This includes attending quarterly board meetings where we review key areas such as strategy, finances, and organisational impact.
  • Strategic Guidance: Help us set the overall direction of Quiet Connections, ensuring our community and values remain at the heart of everything we do. You’ll bring your own perspective, expertise, and insights to inform strategic discussions and help shape our direction. Whether you have experience in social impact, mental health, community engagement, or other areas, your contributions will help us stay aligned with our mission.
  • Expanding Our Reach: Work with us to develop partnerships increase our visibility, and create new opportunities, like Meet Ups and awareness campaigns, to reach more quiet individuals in Cornwall and beyond.
  • Financial Oversight: Ensure that we use our resources effectively to support our mission and maintain transparency in our financial practices.
  • Supporting Our Team: Provide guidance to our staff and volunteers, helping us create a supportive, inclusive environment.
  • Practical Support: We ask for practical involvement based on your strengths and availability. This might include offering advice on specific projects, supporting community events, or mentoring members of our team, depending on your interests and expertise.
  • Ensuring Compliance: All directors must ensure that Quiet Connections complies with relevant laws and regulations, particularly those relating to our status as a community interest company (CIC). This includes maintaining confidentiality and avoiding conflicts of interest.
  • Promoting Narrative Change: Advocate for a more inclusive society by influencing how quietness is perceived and appreciated, both within our organisation and in wider society.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking individuals with a passion for our mission and a commitment to community-building. Experience in areas like business development, finance, marketing, fundraising, or governance is ideal, but the most important quality is a genuine belief in our work. If you have lived experience or a personal connection to our mission, your insights are especially valuable.

We welcome applications from those new to board roles. Skills in governance, finance, HR, or social enterprise are beneficial, but lived experience and an understanding of our community’s unique needs are equally valued.

What Difference Will You Make?

By joining Quiet Connections as a volunteer director, you’ll be directly contributing to the well-being and personal growth of quieter individuals. Your input will help ensure that those who often feel disconnected or overlooked have access to spaces where they can connect, contribute, and grow in confidence and well-being at their own pace.

As a Board member, you’ll help expand our reach, develop new initiatives, and strengthen our impact on quiet individuals and the wider community. Your leadership will enable us to grow our community of ‘Quieteers’—people who know that their quietness is a strength. Together, we can create a society where everyone feels accepted and celebrated just as they are.
