Free Sustainable Photography Workshop with Mitber CIC
Join us in a photography workshop for quiet 8 - 12 year olds, delivered across two days at Krowji, Redruth on Saturdays 28th February and 7th March from 10am - 2.30pm, with a break for lunch each day.
The workshop will be delivered in partnership with Ruth from Mitber CIC, and we will explore alternative photographic techniques using plants, minerals, light, and homemade materials.
This fully funded workshop is available for young people aged 8 - 12, and will encourage them to follow their own ideas, engage with a creative medium, and spend time with other quiet young people at their own pace and as their authentic quiet selves.
We can’t wait to welcome you.

Hi I’m Owen!
I enjoy being extroverted and louder with close friends, but equally need my quiet time to recharge.
With busy life I can find myself pushing that need for quiet down the list of priorities, and am now working to find a better balance and to give myself more time to breathe. I now incorporate quiet into my daily life, from intentional quiet crafty afternoons with friends, to setting a morning aside a week to sit with just myself and a coffee.
I’m excited to create quiet spaces and opportunities for young people, and allow them to more easily engage with youth activities, build confidence and connect with others at their own pace, and to see the value in allowing themselves the quiet spaces they need.
Ruth Purdy
I believe that art has the power to change the world and I set up Make it Better (mitber) CIC to increase engagement with creativity.
I studied Fine Art BA Hons and PGCE in Birmingham, followed by an MA in Photography at Falmouth. Before this I worked in further education and in schools delivering arts education to a wide variety of neurotypical and neurodiverse learners; working closely with speech, language and occupational therapists.
I am always excited to see the unique way individuals respond to and communicate through creative processes. For over ten years I have worked in local communities around Cornwall, demonstrating how regular contact with fun creative activities can improve people lives.
What to expect

Day 2 (Mar 7)
The second day focuses on simple camera techniques and developing images using sustainable methods.

What will the environment be like?
The session will be held in Krowji’s Art Room. The room is light and calm and photos can be found on their website.
These workshops are designed to be calm, welcoming and low-pressure, with limited numbers of up to 8 young people aged 8-12 and 3 facilitators. Parents will be invited to join in with the creativity, to help the young people settle in.
There is no expectation to create or engage in any specific way. Quiet socialising is encouraged, but will not be expected.
What to bring?
We'd recommend wearing comfortable clothes, and bringing something for lunch during the break.
