Introduction to Meditation
Join our Introduction to Meditation online group.
Interested in meditation? Don’t know where to start? Learn the essentials of meditation in a few evenings with fellow quieteers. It’s easier than you think! Join us on Thursdays 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th September from 6pm.
This Pop Up Meet Up is designed to help you enjoy something you might not normally do with likeminded people in a calm and gentle way that feels authentic to your true quiet self. It’s a safe space for you to have a go at something fun and perhaps gently stretch your comfort zone as part of a community of quieteers who truly get you.
We can’t wait to welcome you.

I have always been sensitive, which can be a gift but, especially in adulthood, has sometimes felt like a struggle. For a long time, I thought I had to “fix” the anxious and quiet parts of myself so I pushed through my limits until I burned out. Eventually, my world was so small I didn’t know how to expand it again without falling into old cycles.
So, I started connecting with myself. I learned about self-compassion and quiet people (shout out Susan Cain!), and – crucially – I realised that I have quiet people in my life who I love and respect, and aren’t I worthy of the same? I didn’t have to blame myself for needing rest or quiet; I could engage with the world in a way that worked for me. Amazingly, even just this self-acceptance made it much easier for me to do scary things!
I’m so excited to be a part of Quiet Connections because I believe we all deserve spaces we can just be – with no pressure to act or perform. Finding a like-minded community can be life changing, and I hope to help support spaces where people can embrace who they are, just as they are.
What to expect
What will we be doing?
We’ll meet online using Zoom. The sessions will last one and half hours. They will include guided meditation practices, group and small group discussions, watching videos. Everyone’s welcome!
‘Meditation is really quite simple. All we have to do is embrace each experience with awareness and open ourselves fully to the present moment. When we are completely at ease with our own being, the ripples of awareness naturally spread out in all directions, touching the lives of everyone we meet.’
Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche
In meditation we explore the landscape of the heart and mind with awareness. What we discover is a true and lasting happiness that does not depend on the outer conditions of our lives. Each session includes a video teaching with clear instructions on the basics of meditation practice, guidelines for daily practice, and advice for bringing mindfulness into your everyday life.
Want to increase the quality of your life? The list of proven health and well-being benefits of meditation is getting longer every day. Already a meditator and looking for a way to deepen your meditation practice? Learn to use every experience as an opportunity to awaken with a relaxed, spacious approach to meditation.
What will the sessions be like?
The resources and teachings included in these four sessions are provided by Tergar, a path of practice and community founded on the teachings of Tibetan Buddhist master Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche.
Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche is a much-loved and accomplished Tibetan Buddhist meditation teacher with a rare ability to present the ancient wisdom of Tibet in a fresh, engaging manner and playful sense of humour. The sessions are not facilitated by him but by one of Tergar’s facilitators.
Attendants do not need to have a special interest in Buddhism. The sessions are designed to introduce people new to meditation to the practice from a secular perspective.
Do you need to bring anything?
All you need is curiosity, attention, and a phone or laptop to join the call.
