Join our Ceilidh Meet Up
Connect with likeminded quieteers for a festive Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee. It’s similar to a barn dance) at King Charles Church Hall on Friday 28th November at 8pm.
This Pop Up Meet Up is designed to help you enjoy something you might not normally do with likeminded people in a calm and gentle way that feels authentic to your true quiet self. It’s a safe space for you to have a go at something fun and perhaps gently stretch your comfort zone as part of a community of quieteers who truly get you.
We can’t wait to dance with you!

Hi, I’m Hayley.
I, too, am a quieter person. As a highly sensitive introvert, I love and appreciate my quiet strengths now, but I spent much of my life not feeling good enough and experiencing social anxiety. I missed so many opportunities and connections because I was afraid of being judged harshly, criticised and rejected –and because I doubted that I had the ‘right’ personality to succeed. Now, I’m passionate about helping quiet people discover their unique qualities, gifts, passions and experiences and explore how best to use these to express themselves more authentically, connect more meaningfully and contribute to their world in a way that works with their quieter or more sensitive nature – and I’d love to connect with you at one of our Meet Ups.

Hi, I’m Angela. I’ve spent my life quietly working my way through several different careers, having trained as an architect and worked in practice, research and education, and also in film, television and arts management. I always felt most at home by the sea, so in 2018 I made the decision to move to Cornwall with my cockapoo, Artie.
Once here I cofounded Create CIC in Camborne, with the aim of giving anyone access to creativity, regardless of experience, ability or income. We run workshops, and offer access to equipment and studio space, for pottery, glass and jewellery. If you’re ever in town pop by and say hello!
As a quiet person who is also a director of a community interest company in Cornwall, discovering Quiet Connections has been a revelation to me. It has challenged my perception of my own and others’ quietness and allowed me to see it as a strength rather than a barrier – I can be successful, socially and professionally, because of, not in spite of, my quietness.
What to expect
What to expect
We will be joining a Festive-themed Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) in Falmouth. A ceilidh is a traditionally Scottish or Irish folk dance evening, similar to a barn dance (or a Cornish troyl).
You dance in groups through a set of dances to traditional folk tunes played by a live band. The ‘caller’, who leads the event, will walk us through the dances before we do them and then call out the steps as we go, so no previous knowledge or dance experience is necessary.
Ceilidhs are quite fun events, as everyone dances together that most people will not already know. The spirit is very much about having fun together (including getting things wrong), rather than being perfect.
The will be short breaks between dances, and usually a longer break in the middle. It is not mandatory to take part in every dance, and you can choose to do some dances and sit others out.
Given the nature of the event, it will likely be reasonably loud and busy. It will also involve dancing in pairs and groups, potentially sometimes with people you don’t know. We realise this may be a comfort-zone stretch for some Quieteers but hope that this event will help you to feel more confident to try something you usually may not, in a community of understanding.
You don’t need to bring anything for this event other than yourself. These events can be fairly active as you will be on your feet and moving for most of the event, so please bear this in mind when deciding what clothes and shoes to wear.
There will be tea/coffee, cakes, and vegetarian pasties available to buy. There will not be a bar.
Where to find us
King Charles Church Hall, New Street, Falmouth
The hall is located on New Street, behind King Charles the Martyr Church.
It is near Fairwinds, where the usual Falmouth Wednesday meet-up takes place. If you walk from Fairwinds past the church and up the stone steps next to the church you will be on New Street. If you then turn left and walk a short distance down the street, The Church Hall is the first building on the other side of the road.
Information on the Church Hall can be found here: https://kcmfalmouth.co.uk/community/church-hall/
