Speaking Connections: public speaking practise
Cornwall is full of students who need to present their work; entrepreneurs pitching their ideas; and people attend job interviews everyday with a panel of interviewers or a presentation to deliver. There’s no getting away from the need to speak in public, yet it's our number one fear!
Almost half of all people consider themselves shy. Over 1 in 10 people experience generalised social anxiety, and 43% of students are socially anxious in public speaking.
You have to put yourself out there to achieve what’s truly important to you in life. Society seems to expect that we can all 'just do it', but it can be extremely scary when you’re not confident in your abilities, and many of us will go to great lengths to avoid public speaking.
That’s why we believe you need somewhere that feels safe to practise speaking out first.
We're bringing like-minded people together to create a safe, supportive space where people of all ages who feel anxious or shy about public speaking can improve their speaking abilities and self-belief. It’s the friendly, reassuring space you need to grow your confidence so you can more easily achieve what’s truly important to you in life.

How it works
Do you have public speaking coming up?
Bring your speech, pitch or presentation and use the space to practise and gain valuable feedback while growing your confidence.
Don't have anything coming up and want to have a go at speaking in front of people?
Your encouraged to read from a book; introduce yourself or talk about something you're interested in. It doesn't need to be a prepared speech, though you're welcome to come up with something especially for the sessions.
We'll draw your attention to what you're doing well and you'll get positive feedback about your presentation to take away with you.
